Meetings at the Rainwater Conference Center can be a lot of fun, but once you are done for the day, you are not going to want to go back to your hotel room and stay there until your next meeting in the morning and neither will any of your attendees. Thankfully, there is plenty to do while you are in Valdosta, so you will never be bored.
Here are 4 things to do while you are hosting your meeting at Rainwater Conference Center:
1. Visit Freedom Park
You may want to get outside and explore after a day of indoor meetings and Freedom Park is your best option. You can go alone or invite some of the other attendees to go along with you. There are baseball fields, soccer fields, a disc golf course, and walking trails to keep everyone in shape after a long day. If no one is interested in playing a game, there is a chance that you all can watch one of the numerous tournaments that are held there throughout the year.
2. Visit the Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum
Since you are in the area, you might as well learn as much about the city and county as you can. The historical society and museum is a great place to start, because it is filled with multiple exhibits and displays that document the history of the area. Included in these displays are photographs, documents, military items, and clothing from years past.
3. Turner Center for the Arts
There are six galleries in the Turner Center for the Arts and they are filled with regional and international pieces of art. Thirty exhibits are displayed each year and some of those rotate, so that there is always something new to see when you visit. The permanent exhibits include East African art pieces as well as European porcelain.
4. The Crescent
You can step back in time when you visit the Crescent, which was built in 1898 by Senator William S. West. This twenty-three room mansion has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980. The mansion is surrounded by magnificent gardens, which is why multiple garden clubs meet there and why numerous weddings and other special events take place on the grounds.
Valdosta is a wonderful city that is filled with history, nature, and people who are willing to share their experiences from living there. Even if you are spending most of your time in meetings during the day, there is still plenty of time for you to get out and explore the sights that this area has to offer.
